Communications and Media Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for ongoing contact with consumer and trade media to strategically position and continue to further brand awareness.

Essential Functions:

  • Research, write, pitch, and distribute consumer releases and features inside designated target market(s).
  • Develop and execute public relations plans in assigned target markets including direct media pitches and relationship building. Work with the brand initiatives team to identify events in the market that offer additional media value and leverage such events with the media.
  • Cultivate media relations with target newspapers, publications, radio, and television.
  • Respond to questions related to media kits, articles, and general requests from any/all media for background information.
  • Maximize special events/sponsorship with the development of a creative media spin aimed at securing press coverage.
  • Assist the Public Relations team by responding to divisional requests for licensee coverage.
  • Assist the Public Relations team in executing the culinary team work plans by promoting, preparing, and accompanying said chefs when/where appropriate.
  • Assist the Public Relations team with the development of corporate and licensee marketing elements through copy writing and proofing for custom design project requests.
  • Assistant the Public Relations team by preparing company spokesperson(s) for media interviews and public appearances.
  • Travel: Approximately 35%.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is not responsible for the supervision of staff.

Employment Standards

Education/Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations or agricultural communication from an accredited college or university; and/or
  • Minimum of four years of experience in related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective writing skills.
  • Solid planning and implementation skills.
  • Attention to detail and good with follow-up with extended team(s).
  • Knowledge of media channels inclusive of newspaper, publications, radio, television, and web-based applications.
  • Solid public speaking abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and conversant with culinary terminology.

Priority Requirement:

To professionally participate in Public Relations activities of the company through appropriate media events to protect the integrity of the Certified Angus Beef® brand and company services.
